TECTRE: Passionate About Diversity

COURSE OVERVIEW

Exploring Privilege and Allyship

This course gives participants the opportunity to understand cultural privilege hierarchies.  Each participant will explore their own privilege.  The session will look at how cultural privilege is established within society, and individuals obtain and retain their position in the hierarchy. Allyship is the practice of using your privilege to support and advocate for the marginalised. We will look at the possibilities for developing allyship through understanding your own privilege and we will look at some tools and resources for allyship.

An ally is any person who strives to make inclusion an everyday reality. They actively promote and advocate for the culture of inclusion through intentional, positive and conscious efforts that benefit the workplace as a whole. Allies support all colleagues especially those that may feel excluded, marginalised or vulnerable and don’t have to be aligned to one particular group or protected characteristic.
